The Best Investment You Can Make

We often think of wealth in terms of how much money we have in our bank accounts but have you ever wondered what happens if you lose all your money and assets? What happens next? Would you be able to start from scratch all over again? Granted, that’s an unlikely scenario, but how do you improve the odds of increasing your income and living up to your full potential?

Investing in yourself is one of the most important investments you can ever make. We hear a lot about investing in material things such as the share market, mutual funds, property and so on, but unfortunately, investing in yourself isn’t promoted as much.

Lately I’ve come to realize that how much you invest in yourself will determine what you experience and accomplish in life. There are numerous ways in which you can invest in yourself but today, I’m sharing with you four ways I have personally been investing in myself over the past few months.

1. Reading books

Books/audiobooks are a great way to build your knowledge, mindset and expertise in any area. For the past few years, I’ve been reading a lot of non-fiction and personal development books, and I can’t emphasise enough how much some of these books have impacted my life.

2. Take a class or workshop

Your knowledge and skills remain with you regardless of the economy. Given how we live in a time where there’s so much valuable information available online for free or at a nominal price (Skillshare is a great place to start), there’s no excuse to not learn! I’ve honestly spent over a couple of lakhs in online courses over the last year or so, and though at the time I was hesitant to make these big investments, I can confidently say I’ve more than made back how much I spent on these courses and they’ve not only increased my skills but also my earning potential.

3. Nurture your body and mind

Your body is like a well-oiled machine. If you care for it in the way that you might maintain an expensive car, it will perform amazingly and last for a very long time. So work out (find something you enjoy so it’s actually sustainable), fuel yourself with healthy food, and take the time to meditate/be mindful. Also, make sure you give yourself breaks every now and then to avoid burning out.

4. Explore your creative side

We’re all creative in some way or the other, whether we realise it or not. Creativity helps us grow both personally and professionally, and helps sharpen our mind in a way the usual methods don’t. It could be anything like learning a new language, gardening, dancing, music, or writing, but it’s so helpful to indulge in a creative activity.

Like they say, your future is largely determined by your willingness to invest in yourself now. I hope reading this encourages you to take the first step. :)
