Lessons from COVID times

I’m going to be honest, I had quite a blah week with a few really unproductive days involving me binge watching Fleabag and The Umbrella Academy. I’ve been quite positive these past six months but I think the whole COVID situation and being stuck at home is finally getting to me.

I’ve been doing some thinking and despite everything that’s going on, I feel like this ‘COVID era’ has taught me a lot of things, and if you’re feeling the way I was, I hope these short reminders/lessons will help you out.

1. Nothing is forever

It feels like this is going to last forever, but NOTHING lasts forever and that holds true for this pandemic too.

2. Make the most of every circumstance

In life, we’re always going to face both good and bad circumstances. Nothing good comes out of worrying about things that are beyond our control. Like they say, worrying is just suffering twice, so the best thing we can do is to accept the circumstances and make the most of it. In my case, this time has helped me think about my business and work on projects that I didn’t have the time for when I was constantly traveling. There’s always an up side!

3. Exercise every day

I’m guilty of not practicing this myself but every time I work out, I can’t explain how good I feel after. This lockdown has made me realise not to take my body for granted and take out some time every day to get a workout in and stay in shape.

4. Learn new skills

There is no better time than now when we’re all stuck at home to learn some new skills and level up. I’ve honestly purchased so many online courses during this time and we live in a time where there are so many free resources available online (I’ve taken multiple free trials of Skillshare haha) so use this time to learn something within your industry or something you’ve always wanted to learn but didn’t have the time to.

5. Appreciate what you have

The grass is always greener on the other side. Before lockdown, I was honestly too busy to stop and compare myself to others but I’ve had all the time right now to compare my progress to others’ (and social media really doesn’t make things better in this regard), but like they say, comparison is the thief of joy. Here’s a reminder to put things in perspective: you’re reading this email on your smartphone/laptop in the comfort of your house, your life really isn’t so bad.

6. Stop consuming, start creating

This is something I’ve tried to live by these past few years but all hell broke loose during this lockdown; I’ve binge watched countless shows and movies. I feel like every person I know is over-consuming everything right now, but the world never changed for the better by doing nothing. So stop sitting and wasting time and go create something!

7. Be kind to yourself

All said and done, we’re literally in the midst of a pandemic. I know we can be our worst enemy and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably put a lot of pressure on yourself to be productive but it’s okay to feel ‘blah’ given the circumstances. Be kind to yourself; it’s important to find the peace you deserve during this unpredictable time.

What have been your lessons during this time? Would love to hear about it so comment and let me know. :)
